Trip Overview
We proudly introduce a new tour - Lake Constance – a classic bicycling region bordering this famed lake, touching Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
With its stunning turquoise shore shared by all three countries, Lake Constance is a jewel in the crown of central Europe. It is a perfect location for a bicycle tour with comfortable inns and hotels and excellent cuisine.
Our route follows almost 200 miles of well marked bicycle paths. You’ll marvel at the attractive surrounding countryside and neatly groomed villages. Lakeside paths meander from country to country taking in flower-strewn meadows, Bavarian vineyards and picturesque marinas.
Brimming with rich history, each day includes stops at cultural highlights and fairy-tale castles. We’ve designed our route so that you’ll have ample time to explore the flower decked palaces in Konstanz and numerous village squares. Day 1. (Sunday – Germany) Meet in the medieval town of Constance, the largest town on Lake Constance. Constance is a one-hour direct train ride from the Zurich Airport. After a walking tour of the town we settle in to our 4-star hotel, followed by a reception and dinner.
Day 2. (Monday – Switzerland) Cycle from Constance to Stein am Rhein, noted for its famous well-preserved Old Town featuring painted facades and half-timbered 16th century houses. (30 km) After lunch enjoy a short drive to Schaffhausen and the Rheinfalls, Europe’s most powerful waterfalls.
Day 3. (Tuesday- Germany) Cycle from Stein am Rhein to the old imperial town of Radolfzell. (21km) After lunch we cycle along the lakeshore towards the former imperial town of Überlingen (34km) with its gothic cathedral and famous lakeside promenade.
Day 4. (Wednesday – Germany) Today we pass through Meersburg, with its ancient castle and beautiful old town, on our way to Friedrichshafen, home of the famous Zeppelin Musuem. (24 km) After lunch continue to the Bavarian town of Lindau, surrounded by orchards and the lake with breathtaking views of the Alps. (25km)
Day?5. (Thursday – Switzerland) Magnificent views of snow-capped Alpine peaks as we cycle west along Lake Constance’s southern shore from Lindau (32 km) before crossing the Rhine delta between Austria and Switzerland. An area of great natural beauty, our final stretch takes us into the little lakeside resort of Rorschach.
Day 6. (Friday – Switzerland) The last day of the cycling takes us through the Swiss canton of Thurgau and through well-kept villages along the lakeshore, back to our starting point of Constance (36 km). A last opportunity for shopping or relaxing at a lake side café, before our final dinner tonight.
Day 7. (Saturday) Depart from Constance.
