Trip Overview

Erie Canal, Lake Ontario, Adirondack Mountains & New England Villages

This new trip, A Northeast Sampler, takes you through some of the best cycling in the northeastern U.S. We begin near Rochester, NY, in the small college town of Brockport, NY, where Classic Adventures got its start. Highlights include the Erie Canal, recognized as the greatest engineering project of its time. We spend a day cycling along this gentle waterway, through historic villages, including Palmyra where you can take a short side trip to visit the Joseph Smith Farm.

Our route journeys north to Lake Ontario and the Adirondack Mountains. These are not the steep, grand heights of the Western U.S. Their beauty lies in cool, lush forests and lofty, rounded features. You won't see the bare rocky landscape of the West. Lakes and streams abound, adding sparkle and color.

We'll travel through the Green Mountain State of Vermont and experience some of its classic New England villages, including Middlebury, VT. This classic New England look continues through New Hampshire and on to Maine, where we end the tour at the small but well-known, coastal village of Freeport, ME.
